Yes, dear reader, that hissing cockroach is indeed alive with shit glued to it.
This is the reason I personally have stopped watching America's Next Top Model, because they carted out live animals as accessories.
Jewels are for brooches, not roaches. I've owned hissing cockroaches before, they're fun, clean, and easy to care for pets. Use your beadazzler on your jeans, not your bugs.

i think gingerly putting on 2 or 3 very small, light gems that can be removed isn't much a problem, since the pronotom(where they're attaching the gems in the photo) is a very very sturdy, tough, thickly armored part of the bug, but leashing it and wearing it simply as jewelry and little else is absurd. hissing roaches, with proper care(which is remarkably easy and low cost), can be expected to easily live to be 3 or 5 years old! all they really need is a tank with enough room to crawl around and exercise, a place to hide, a water source(hell a wet paper towel will even work), and a diet of fresh fruits and veggies(carrots, apple, peas, ect.) and dry pellet food such as dog, cat or fish/reptile food.
maybe if the roaches were treated with love and care as companions, and the addition of a jewel or two was just to look pretty when taken out and about with owners, it wouldn't be so bad.
